Come celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary at Régine this Thursday, March 12th, starting at 10pm, with Lady Bunny, Mister Rabbit, a live by Steed Lord, a warm-up by Olympia Le Tana & a dance performance by Dangerkat. The House of Dangerkat is a Canadian-based collective of arts professionals synthesizing fashion and styling with music and dance, further enhanced by video, photography and design. The House’s laissez-faire style of performance art has wowed the fashion, dance and music communities with their progressive approach to art making and rule breaking. My friend Jason Williscroft saved me from getting too wrapped up in the trappings of this non-holiday by sending me the video of his evening at avec in Chicago last weekend, where he proposed to his girlfriend Shara with a self-described Barbie Diamond.** Congratulations to Jason and Shara! May you have a long and happy life together!

Collette made it to the cover of Smash Hits Magazine! From the exclusive Interview:

The impetus for "Ring My Bell" came about when our gal, a self confessed "club person" was out at various nightspots and happened to notice the great reaction that "Ring My Bell" got when the DJ played the original version… Collette decided that the song could do with being "brought up to date" and "modernized" and so went into a recording studio to lay down a demo of the song - took it to a record company and hey presto! she had a recording contract, made a single and became a star overnight!

… "I went into a newsagent to buy a lollipop - I really like lollipops - and I was just there to buy this 30c lollipop and then girl starts chucking a mental going "Oh my god it’s Collette". Here I am standing there with my lollipop and she’s going "What flavour would you like Collette?" and I’m going, "Oh, lime", and she’s going "We also have orange and raspberry!" and I’m going "No, I’ll just have lime thanks!


Did she give it to me free? Nah! I think she was too overwhelmed to ask for an autograph too!"

… "I think Collette does appeal to everyone," she insists. "It’s just me and it’s not too far away from me. Anyone can dress like me. A lot of girls out there can relate to me. I’m not wearing anything you can’t buy or copy. I’ve really begun to notice that almost every girl about eight is wearing bicycle pants and a t-shirt. It’s really funny!"

Collette has strength about her. She stands tall in her deep apricot dress and brown cape embellished with antique trim, orange sequins, bugle beads and puffs of fir. You will find a gold rose at her waist. Hidden among the brown and burnt umber tones you will encounter leopards and swatches of leopard prints. Hand painted large gold vines enhance the jungle theme. Surprises of shimmer are scattered to catch the light.

I would like to extend a special and heart-felt thank-you to Mike Crowley, who married us and who wrote these vows, and to all of our friends and family who helped us pull off a magical Wedding Week last year. Our lives would not be the same without them. It was within the loving and supportive context of our social circles that Doug and I got to the point of marriage in the first place. I have not been happier.
